Marching Band

Everyone in St. Attracta’s is very proud of our marching band. The marching band is an iconic feature of our school. The band originated down the street in St. John’s National School. When St. John’s N.S. and St. Francis Xavier N.S. amalgamated in 1992 to form St. Attracta’s N.S.. Ms. Deeney makes sure that the marching band continues marching.

Ms. Deeney and Tommy Doherty take charge of the band today.

Midwest Radio visited our school in early March 2022 to hear all about the band. Band members explained why they were excited to be marching in the St. Patrick’s Day parade 2022 after two years of no parades due to the Covid-19 restrictions. They also explained all about their very especial 6o year band uniforms. Listen to our MWR podcast recording here. This was first broadcast on 14th March 2022.

In addition to performing the band instruments, all pupils from 2nd class to 6th class are taught the tin whistle in weekly lessons throughout the year.

There is also a school choir which begins from 2nd class upwards. Ms. Coyle leads the choir.

Public choral, musical and dramatic performances are arranged by teachers during the school year to celebrate, inspire and share the talents of our hardworking pupils.
